For my culture module, my group and I chose to focus on the growing topic of digital privacy. Therefore, I think it is important to become knowledgable about digital privacy and what we as users leave on the internet. Furthermore, digital privacy itself is important because with younger generations joining the internet they might not know about how to protect themselves from harmful effects of their ignorance.
I am excited about starting this module because I think digital privacy serves as a turning point for how we are remembered when we are gone. Before the internet, people were mainly remembered through their physical accomplishments and the stories passed down from others, but today–where using technology is our main source of communication–our cyber footprint that we leave behind is more concrete. Conversely, I look forward to becoming well informed about how I can preserve sensitive information about myself without unconsciously leaving it behind on the internet.
